Their discovery on the third floor of Hickory Hill is almost too much to bear.

Since the Beautiful Houses computer software worked so well for the Old Dears’ family tree project, Abby’s college roommate Kate hopes the computer program will help her find out more about her ancestor Ned Greenfield.

Abby and John reluctantly agree to help Kate, but only on the condition that she and her fiancé Ryan promise to keep the program a secret, because if the government ever discovered they possessed a computer program that allows you to rewind and fast-forward the lives of people it would surely want to get its hands on it.

The two couples take a trip to the tiny town of Equality, set in the hills of southern Illinois and the breath-taking Shawnee National Forest. According to Kate’s research, Ned Greenfield was born there at a place called Hickory Hill.

The mayor, police chief, and townspeople are hospitable and helpful—until the topic of Hickory Hill comes up. Then they are determined to keep them away. Eventually they find Hickory Hill on their own—both the mansion and the lonely hill it sits upon. And what a perfect old house to time-surf in!

Built in 1834, Hickory Hill stands sentinel over Half Moon Salt Mine where the original owner John Granger accumulated his blood-tainted fortune with the use of slave labor in the free state of Illinois—the Land of Lincoln.

Abby and her friends meet Miss Granger, Hickory Hill’s current eccentric owner, and they eventually get the chance to run Beautiful Houses there. Their shocking discovery on the third floor concerning Kate’s ancestor Ned Greenfield is almost too much to bear. What they learn sends them racing to the opposite end of the state to find the missing link in Kate’s family tree. And there they are reminded that God is in the business of redemption—that one day he’ll make all things new.

What Readers Are Saying…

“This is the first five star rating I've given in hundreds of books. The story plot is unusual and wonderful in so many ways.”

“Loved the premise, the story line, the perspective, Christian background—everything! This is a great series. Looking forward to more.”

“Beautifully written!”

“The characters are believable and endearing. I am about to finish the second series and hope more come out soon because I just can't get enough.”

“I just want more of this writer’s books.”

These books are just amazing as the author takes you back to a time in history so you can live it. (N. Dester)

“This series of books is exactly what I have been looking for! It’s not only a refreshing change from all the filth and violence in much of the modern fiction I've read, it's also very well written, imaginative yet informative, and well researched. Something I would love to have my 13 year old daughter read!”  (Karen S Kidder-Barrett)

“Love, love, love this series. Sad to finish, but happy there are more books to read by this author. Next up, Once Again!” (Melissa S)

“Only a great author could weave all of the genres together the way she did. There is a great balance between what happened in the past and why and how it affects the present.” Nicely Done!  (J Hall)

“This is one journey through time you won't want to miss. Just be sure to bring a box of tissue with you as this may well be the most emotional journey yet!”

“I am completely enchanted with this series. I think that this third book may be my favorite yet, because it truly elicited emotional responses from me.”
 (Tiffany A Harkleroad, Vine Voice)

Every Hill and Mountain The History Mystery Series Book 3 edition by Deborah Heal Romance eBooks

I loved all three of the books in this series, but this final installment was especially good. Definitely recommend reading all three in order.

The author has really managed to bring history alive in this book. Very few writers could inspire me to do extra research on history topics, as it was never my favorite subject, but Deborah Heal has done so.

There was a great deal of information about slavery that I'd have never known, for example I never knew that the "free" states and the slave states were actually not that different sometimes. It's certainly heartbreaking to read at points, but that is a good thing since It made me more aware of what the U.S. was like at that time.

Note to anyone who may be tempted to write this off as "Christian Fiction"... yes, it does have a Christian bent to it, however it is not intrusive at all. I've found that some Christian books are so heavy handed with it that it distracts from the story, however this was handled in a very subtle way.

Every Hill and Mountain The History Mystery Series Book 3 edition by Deborah Heal Romance eBooks Reviews

Thoroughly engaging book! Fun read! I am delighted to have found this author and to allow myself the pleasure of entering her character's world! Great concept for a most interesting and informative read! Highly recommended!
I read the first book and got hooked! If you like history and adventure this is the book series for you! It is told in a way that I have never got to read about history before. I was so involved in reading the book, I was finished before I knew it. I was ready for the next book. The author has really done her homework on the history side. Now I am reading the next series.
Based upon a computer program that could take the user back in time. I see that this one is the 3rd of a series, but having never read the first two or anything else by Ms. Heal, it was easy to follow along with the characters. It was a different read for sure, enjoyable. Other reviewers covered the synopsis adequately.
Book three of the History Mystery series continues where the previous book left off, with characters Abby, Merri, and John continuing to explore history with their time-surfing program. New revelations about Civil War era slavery issues capture readers' attention and one is drawn into the conflict on an emotional level. Ultimately, God's mercy, grace, and forgiveness is the only way that characters and readers alike are able to resolve the circumstances revealed.
I chose to give this book five stars for an especially very interesting history lesson I this story about slaves being used to help prepare salt for our daily needs. It was done by time-surfing as well as old time research work too in this book.
I really liked this book and her other books too that I have already read and reviewed! I recommend this book for especially those who like to read and do research and perhaps also those who like to time surf about what had happened a long time ago to maybe better understand what really had gone on in days gone by! Young or old but not too young as they may not be prepared for some of the things that had happened to the blacks especially long, long time ago. I had actually bought this particulate book though but asked the author about my reading and reviewing this book and she gave me the ok? Great Work Deborah! By Angela
As I first began this reading journey I frankly thought and said to my self here is a 76 year old man reading a Nancy Drew mystery.

As the first book unfolded I found I really liked it. I liked the writing style, the mysteries that opened up, and the characters as they were developed.

The first references to scripture seemed a bit too goodie, but as the story developed they seemed to work ok, and I felt the emotions that showed up in the story plot demonstrated the real world of the characters, and real world emotions and feelings people have as they go through this journey called life.

By the end of the three books I would simply say I enjoyed the reading and the presentations. I had not heard of Ms. Heal before, but I have now and will be trying more in the future. This set of three deservedly belongs in Goodreads. Congratulations and thanks for the reading enjoyment Ms. Heal, well done.
I loved this book. I loved how each book added to the dimension of understanding how the program worked and as they carefully and consciously made ethical and moral choices in order to treasure the past with respect make decisions for the good and safety of what they could see. I loved learning about the ins and outs of faithfulness that over and over again allowed the characters to remain strong and determined to survive all they went thru whether to the extreme or in the day to day cares of everyday life. I cannot wait to read more. If looking for a term to define what type of book this represents, I would call it an inspirational sci-fi novel.
